The City of Overton is once again in violation for TTHMs.

The TTHMs aren’t naturally occurring but are formed when you add chlorine to water that has ammonia. The state requires all systems to have a chlorine residual and since Overton uses free uncombine chlorine the formation of TTHMs is likely if the source water is not treated. TTHM can be reduced by increased flushing, which Overton is doing, or source treatment. The city is currently in talks with an engineer to try and eliminate this problem. Until we can come up with a solution the city is going to increase flushing fire hydrants to 3 days a week to keep the water moving through the system, reduce the age of the water and the possibility of additional TTHM formation.
